Multiple Spatial and Temporal Scales Evaluation of Eight Satellite Precipitation Products in a Mountainous Catchment of South China

Satellite precipitation products (SPPs) have emerged as an important information source of with high spatio-temporal resolutions, great potential to improve catchment water resource management and hydrologic modelling, especially in data-sparse regions. As indirect measurement, satellite-derived accuracy is major concern. There been numerous evaluation/validation studies worldwide. However, a convincing systematic satellite remains unrealized. In particular, there are still only limited number evaluations/validations long temporal period. Here we present evaluation eight popular SPPs (CHIRPS, CMORPH, GPCP, GPM, GSMaP, MSWEP, PERSIANN, SM2RAIN). The area used, using daily data from 2007 2020, the Xiangjiang River basin, mountainous humid sub-tropical monsoon climate situated south China. was conducted at various spatial scales (both grid-gauge scale watershed scale) (annual seasonal scales). paid particular attention intensity its impact on modelling. results, overall statistical metrics show that GSMaP MSWEP rank two best-performing SPPs, KGEGrid ? 0.48 KGEWatershed 0.67, while CHIRPS SM2RAIN were worst-performing ? 0.25 0.42. gave closest agreement observations.
